Mint is pleased to announce ‘Chez Czech’, a retrospective of Czech designer Maxim Velcovsky to take place over the month of April 2010. To complement Velcovsky’s extensive body of work, Mint will also exhibit a selection of works by other emerging and established Czech designers.

Ceramic Art London 2010

Nice weekend? Mine was, didn't do much, saw a good movie, met my friends and rested...Today I got an email from Claire telling my that I won a ticket to see the Ceramic Art London 2010 at the RCA in London. I first met her at Origin last year and instantly fall in love with her work, so I can't wait to see her new ceramics !! If you are in London head to the RCA for some serious good ceramics.

Qué tal el fin de semana? El mio muy relajado, ví pelis, quedé con mis amigos/as y no mucho más...Hoy recibí un email de Claire diciendo que gané unos tickets para asistir a la exposición de cerámicas en el Royal College of Art en Londres, asi que si están por aquí no se lo pierdan.

Second hand plates Karen Ryan

Karen Ryan's 'Second Hand Plates' series is a good example of how we can bring new life into an old tired product by upcycling, obviously you need to have great skills and talent to come up with something as stunning as this plates!!. Her work is remarkable, now I only need some money to get one of this designs...I damage second hand old plates. I remove the decorative patterns that camouflage our everyday lies and in its place I leave words that prick our conscience and create portraits of hidden domestics left open for others to interpret.

Me acabo de enamorar de estos platos de la diseñadora Karen Ryan, son de la serie 'Second Hand Plates', me parece un buen uso de la palabra 'upcyling', como dar vida nueva a un algo viejo y convertirlo en un objeto de deseo. Ahora solo necesito dinero para comprar uno de estos!!

Bloesem blog has got this great section called "Let's get personal" where they show the houses of different artists, what inspires them and show a bit of their work as well. I have spent quite a bit of time going through all the posts, admiring the photos, styling, etc... what is it about people's houses that I like so much? I guess that I get to see how all this interesting artists/designers get to live, decorate their interiors and how that sometimes can be reflected in their own work. One of my favorite is the house and work of designer Lenneke Wispelwey. Her ceramics line called 'The sweet surprise', in pastel colors, simple shapes, peculiar textures and full of humor is a must!!

Porque sera que me gusta tanto cuando tengo la oportunidad de echar un vistazo a las casas de diferentes artistas/disenadores?? Imagino porque suelen ser espacios muy creativos e inpiradores. El blog Bloesem tiene una seccion 'Lets get personal' que es una delicia, te puedes pasar un buen rato, observando cada una de las fotos, los objetos, curiosidades, muebles, colores, etc...Una de mis favoritas, es la casa y trabajo de la disenadora Lenneke Wispelwey, sus ceramicas en colores pastel son muy divertidas!!

Origin is always filled with a wide variety of ceramics, and this year’s show wasn’t an exception. I saw very beautiful and well crafted work on display. James and Tilla Waters design’s were one of my favorites, for the delicates shapes of the vases and pots and the range of colors and marks on its decorations.

I first saw Nicola’s ceramics at her degree show in Camberwell back in 2002 and was delighted to see her new pieces at the fair. Her work is very distinctive and full of humour, think extra large jewellery for the home!! She uses traditional ceramic techniques to explore love and death, fragility and power and personal relashionships…I wish I had a lot of money and a big living room to put one of her so collectable pieces in my house!!

I have always liked Annette ceramics, I remember seeing them in Loop, (where I used to sell my cushions when they first opened the shop). I like the warmth quality of her vases, very much inspired on knitting patterns, they are full of textures and made to be touched and felt

{Origin 2009} Claire Loder ceramics faces

Claire’s faces were calling me from this little corner of the show, I looked at them from the distance and felt very intrigued by the big heads with small sad eyes. They all have the same mouth and expressions, as if they were there to be watched, not saying much…I had a lovely chat with Claire while I was staring at them, I her words… The focus of many of my larger pieces is the eyes; typically the gaze is averted inviting the viewer to contemplate the interior world of the subject or what may have just happened 'out of shot'. As the work has developed the communication of the interior world continues to be significant, other themes and fascinations are being woven around this framework.

I find her work very fascinating and interesting, and have enjoyed browsing her very funny website, full of nice surprises!!

Nina in Vorm ceramics/ceramica

I keep seeing Nina's ceramics everywhere, they are so beautiful, I love the fact they are different shapes, white ceramics, with funky prints, red, blue and yellow, great color combination, I like very much the way she stylish the tea pots and plates, she does it in a very playful way.  I am saving money to get some of them soon. This will be my treat for the house.

He estado viendo las ceramicas de Nina en todos lados, son tan bonitas, me encanta el hecho de que tengan diferentes formas, y el contraste de la ceramica blanca con los colores, rojo, azul y marillo. Tambien me gusta la manera en la muestra su trabajo, da mucho juego.  Tan pronto como ahorre algo de dinero me compro algunas para mi casa.
