UK Handmade

Tuesday, 16 June 2009

UK Handmade is a design led online magazine committed to showcasing and promoting the best creative talent the UK has to offer. Artists and designers from across all of the art disciplines have a place here including photography, feltmaking, jewellery, fashion and art.
The term 'handmade' is now an indicator of quality, care and professionalism that is second to none and something we at UK Handmade wish to encourage and celebrate.

I am so glad to have found UK Handmade, not only they produce a beautiful online magazine, but have a Forum and a blog, full of interesting information, and focused on small business and craft makers. It is so nice to see a growing craft community and interest in handmade design.  I am off to join their forum!!

{easy elegance}

Thursday, 4 June 2009

I found about this beautiful book on my last issue of ELLE Decoration, it is called easy elegance by stylist Atlanta Bartlett with gorgeous photos by Polly Wreford. I share this book's  vision on decorating, you don't need a lot of money and big houses to create a cosy, elegance and wonderful home!! but a good eye and appreciation of well done pieces of furniture, art, craft and design. A home should be a working process, that develops with the time and reflex your own taste and individuality.

DIY revolution...

On my way back from Spain I got a copy of ELLE magazine, (I love my magazines, and when traveling apart of making sure I have my ticket, passport and luggage I always pack myself with a good selection of magazines, you see, Canary Island – where I come from – is 4 hours fly from London, so plenty of time for reading and browsing...) and for my surprise I found a article about DIY, it talks about craft making and going back to traditions and handmade things, such as knitting, I can't believe it!!! I have to say that in UK people are well aware of what contemporary craft means, but back in Spain, people have got this image of craft meaning a holiday gift traditionally made in the local area where you were staying!! So I am very glad to have found this article in one of the mainstream magazines featuring work of contemporary designers.
LONG LIFE TO DIY!!!
