I am having a creative crisis...

Sunday 29 August 2010

Sunday evening...and after many days and hours of work still haven't decided on the exact designs to take into production. I am having a bit of a creative crisis at the moment. Well it is not so bad, I am very happy with the bone china I will be using for my ceramics collection, I met the supplier on Friday and they seem very nice and helpful, I was looking for very good quality china with nice shapes at the right price and have found it! I have decided as well which products to develop at this initial stage, it would be mugs and plates, and perhaps tea & sauces and cake stands.

The color range is black, yellow and pinks...I realised I like very simple designs, specially when it comes to table ware. I could create complex patterns and mix colors but don't seem to like them so much, so have decide to do very simple products.

These are my first prototypes, plain white china, paper, a bit of glue, the printer...I welcome your opinions and comments, some feedback would be nice, what do you think so far?

Inside my sketchbooks and creative process...

Thursday 19 August 2010

I am very excited about some good news I got from a company today, hopefully I will be working with them to produce some bone china mugs with my designs. As I have mentioned before, I am working on new products, and the idea of applying my designs to ceramics has been going on in my head for quite sometimes, well after a lot of planning, and searching for the right company to manufacture them, I think I have found the right one. I will be seeing samples of the china next week and hopefully I will decide on what designs to work on. I am sure you are all familiar with my 'Decayed Glamour' collection, I have been going back to my sketchbooks to rework some of the designs to make them suitable for the mugs... the creative process is the most fun and rewarding of the whole business and I wish I could spend more time just filling my books with ideas, inspiration and collages. This photos below show some of the pages of my sketchbook, different drawings, what inspired me to develop this collection, etc...

Damask, vintage furniture, my dear chesterfield, chandeliers, mirrors....
I dyed materials in different colors and printed on them.
This is my one of my favorites collages, it will end up in my living room wall, once I have painted in black...

People that inspire me...

Wednesday 18 August 2010

I have spent the last few weeks, planning, budgeting, creating, etc...I am in the process of launching a series of new products and designs, that I will develop in the new few months, hopefully I will have some ready for sell in late September, ready for the One Day Designers Sale event, at Craft Central on the 22 September 2010. I work by myself and I am based at home, so sometimes it can feel very isolating, so having a supportive network of friends, family and people who are trying to do the same as me is essential for my sanity. Today I had a great day, went for a long walk, and met two very nice friends. First I stopped by Sarah´s lovely shop, the OLD VILLA, in Peckham, where she told me that the online shop has been launched, so if you can not make it to South London, now you have a place where to buy her gorgeous range of home ware.

...Later on, met with my dear friend Simon, at his new shop, in East Dulwich, where he sells the best range of wall paint, Siecle, that money can buy. He loves color, and have created a gorgeous line of cushions, mugs, wall papers and decal to die for, if you are in the area, I really recommend you to pop and say hello, he is lovely and very passionate about good quality design and paint. His shop is going to be a big success!!

My house in ELLE DECO Spain...

I love ELLE magazine, specially the deco edition, many times I have said in here that the UK version of Elle is one of my favorites interiors magazines, so having found the Spanish online version of it is a bonus! I don't get to read much in Spanish this days and my house has never being featured in any Spanish sites or magazines, so seeing the photos of my house being featured in ELLE DECO makes me very happy!!
Adoro la revista ELLE, especialmente la versión de decoración Inglesa, así que haber encontrado la página de ELLE DECO en Español es todo un bonus!!, ver mi casa publicada en su web me hace muy feliz!

Experimenting and enjoying the creative process...

Wednesday 4 August 2010

I am taking August and September to develop new collections and products, a lot of planning and thinking, there is so much I want to do, but have to decide on only a few designs, as the cost to produce each collection is quite high, new screens, more fabrics, inks etc...Since I came back from Prague I can't stop thinking of Cubism, the bauhaus era, black and white, mid century posters, etc...I have been for quite sometime wanted to do something a bit more modern and this is the right time. I have started  working on my sketchbook, I love drawing with black pencil and making marks and textures, I don't know what I am doing at the moment I am just experimenting and enjoying the creative process. I HATE putting pressure at this stage, but I know I have a limited time to produce a new design before September, I will be showing more as I go.
