Emma Cassi – gorgeous bangles

Thursday, 24 June 2010

What can I say about Emma Cassi's delicate work that hasn't been said already? That is gorgeous, unique, feminine and sophisticated, etc...she combines delicate laces, fabrics and stones to create the most beautiful pieces of jewellery. She has got a great sense of style, her pieces, styling, home...a truly talented lady!!

New talents...

It is always so nice to meet new interesting artists/designers and get to know their work. Last week I attended one of the so many workshops celebrated at Craft Central, and had the opportunity to meet very talented people, we shared our experiences, talked about our work, and learned from the experienced team that was given the lecture. This is how I met textile and jewellery designer Elinor Voytal, I really like the use of textiles in jewellery, specially if they are used in an unusual and interesting way. what I liked about her work is the color rainbow effect and the knitting techniques she use to create this handmade pieces.

Textile/surface designer Laura Felicity was among the group, she is based in London and work mainly with silk screen to create a bespoke range of wallpapers and other interior products. Her work evokes elegance and sophistication, keep an eye on her future projects!!

Mark Borthwick and his dreamy photos

Wednesday, 23 June 2010

I love learning about new things, artists, their lives and work, etc...this morning reading an article in the ELLE magazine, I fall in love with the photos, so went ahead and looked for more information about the photographer who took them, and is how I learned about Mark Borthwick, the photographer behind this dreamy photos and his life with this family in this beautiful house in Brooklyn. More info about him here.

Cute flowers arrangements

Polly from the Arrow tree blog, have managed to create this very cute flower arrangement by simply picking up some wild flowers from her garden and using different glass bottles and vintage boxes. It comes to show that you don't need to spend a lot of money to have a lovely mini garden in your house, all you need is good taste and imagination!!
Que bonito y sencillo a la vez, simplemente usando flores salvajes y botellas vacias de cristal se puede crear un mini jardín dentro de la casa, solo se necesita buen gusto y un poquito de imaginación.

Carters Steam fair is in London!!

Wednesday, 16 June 2010

Last Sunday I had the privilege of enjoying the Carters Steam Fair, a funfair made up of a collection of amazing attractions that go back to Victorian's times. They have been kept in the original state, and are amazing to look at, we even try some of them and had a good laugh, (I found a sliming mirror in the mirror show, that I wanted to bring home and every where with me haha...). Check their website for the next shows in London, I really recommend a visit to this extraordinary fun fair, specially if you like old graphics, vintage looking signs and logos!!

craft central – a great space for nurturing your creativity and knowledge

Tuesday, 15 June 2010

I joined craft central a few weeks ago, and I am very glad I did. Another very good thing I have done is to quit my graphic design freelance job. I have been working a lot lately and felt I wasn't dedicating enough time and energy to my business and as a result was feeling very frustrated and tired of having to deal with so many things in my life. So from now on I will be working mainly in chocolatecreative, I feel very inspired and happy, and at the same time a bit nervous as I am doing this with hardly any financial back up, but I am very determined to make it happen, after all, it is where my heart and my passion are!!

So being part of a creative network such as craft central is essential to me, I admit it, I am not superwoman and need hep with different areas of the business, so today I had a very good day, I attended my first event, a press and PR tips and writing workshop, where I learned very useful information and met very nice women who were in the same position as me. So if you are trying to make your business happen, go out there and ask for hep!! To start with, I send you a lot of positive energy from London, so good luck with it, you can make it happen!!

A rural retreat

Last week, I was excited to have a few days break from the city and escape to the country. There's nothing quite like the countryside in summertime. Complete with flowers in full bloom, my mum's fresh baking and the arrival of my beautiful nephew, it was nothing short of perfection.

First I attended my cousin's wedding in Henley. A beautiful rural, country affair, complete with an Alice in wonderland themed croquet lawn, vintage tea cups and giant playing cards....
I'm sure there's something about living away from home that makes you appreciate it more. The view from my parent's house in the Cotswold's is gorgeous, and I loved finding the array of little treasures creeping out of the woodwork.

UXUA casa hotel – a dream come true

I have found the perfect place for my next holidays in Brazil. The UXUA casa hotel is located in the fishing village of Trancoso, in the Souther Bahia in Brazil. It is run by dutch fashion designer Wilbert Das, who after visiting the area on holidays fall in love with the little village and surroundings and decided to stay for ever, and built this amazing paradise. The hotel is made up of three old fishermen's huts that where in the property that they restored and used for inspiration for the others. The photos
bellow are from his house, simple constructions and white washed interiors with natural materials. I would love to build a little house like this back home, perhaps one day...

Miniature vintage silhouette – my new treat

Thursday, 3 June 2010

In one of my so many visit to the V&A museum I found a collection of Victorian silhouettes that I totally fall in love with. That trip gave me the inspiration to develop the Chocolate Creative's cameos collection. and to start appreciating this form of art. Since them I have seen the cameos/silhouettes graphics being applied to almost everything, specially interiors products. So when browsing etsy the other day I was very pleased to see this miniature silhouettes for sale, and rush to get them on the spot, so lucky I was they were based in the UK. I got them from The English Preserves shop. They are a vintage reproduction of artist Marcelle D. Shears. Thanks Maggie for sending them so soon and so well wrapped I LOVE them!!
