Here's the official blurb......
This autumn the Crafts Council presents the fourth Origin: the London Craft Fair at Somerset House. Origin provides a unique opportunity to buy some of the finest contemporary craft directly from the people who make it, and all under one roof. Around 300 makers from 18 different countries will be at Origin. Ceramics, textiles, glass, furniture, metalwork and jewellery are amongst the crafts on sale and work ranges from functional tableware and sculptural glassware to classic knitwear and innovative jewellery and millinery.

Origin will present a programme of events with a focus on contemporary basketry this year to coincide with the appointment of basketmaker Mary Butcher as the second Crafts Council and V&A maker-in-residence. There will be a series of curated interventions throughout the pavilion and an interactive and ambitious installation to challenge perceptions of this craft form.

Each week Origin showcases the work of 150 different makers in a bespoke pavilion situated in the Edmond J. Safra Fountain Court at Somerset House. The pavilion provides a light and stylish environment in which to see and buy the thousands of objects on offer. Work by established makers such as Angela Cork, Grainne Morton, David Poston and Kaori Tatebayashi will share the space with a new generation of makers including Michelle Aked, Hans Borgonjon, Claire Loder and Christian O’Reilly; all recipients of the prestigious Crafts Council Development Award in 2008. Makers this year include;

• Yu Jordy Fu whose paper-cut ‘Cloud’ lampshades create dream-like landscapes for the home.
• Jewellery duo Tithi & Nutre who have designed ‘All Year Rings’; a laser-engraved fine paper calendar that contains 12 flower-shaped rings that can be made up and worn.
• Jo Davies who creates plain monochrome vessels each with a signature swirl of ceramic ribbon around the necks and rims.
• Joseph Harrington whose sculptural glass pieces are cast from melting ice sculptures to produce ethereal and transient objects.
• Helena Vaari who uses embroidery and textile collage to create textiles that look like pastel drawings.
• Lisa Tilley of U Old bag! who covers vintage suitcases with her own textile designs and vintage materials to create bespoke bags and jewellery boxes.

Engage with contemporary craft at Origin 2009; buy and commission directly from makers, to see exciting conceptual site-specific work, and learn more about craft through talks and demonstrations.

CASA DECOR 2009

I am trilled to show this photos of this year's Casa Decor 09 exhibition building in Barcelona. What a place! I can't wait to see what the interior firms do with it.

Casa Decor is a unique and innovative approach developed specifically for Interior Designers, Architects , Artists, Designers and Manufacturers to showcase their creative vision.
Already a success in 27 countries throughout the world, Casa Decor is a month long "exhibition with a difference" where a building in a major city is transformed by Interior Designers and Architects, creating an unparelleled marketing opportunity. Here, products, services, leading edge designs and art are presented in real life settings to an audience of Architects, Developers, Suppliers, Hotel Specifiers, The Design Press - and the Public!

I have been lucky enough to assist to a few of Casa Decor events in the past (includind the presentation of the event in London) and can only say that if you like interiors and decoration is the place to be!! I am planning to go to barcelona for this years', running from 12 November-13 December, my friends from Deulonder will be exhibiting there together with many other talented designers.

Enjoy the empty building photos, I will comeback with some images of this place already done!!

So much inspiration at Dos family...

Monday 21 September 2009

I am always looking for things to inspire me and many times come across very interesting web sites, books, shops, people, artits, etc…My last discovery is the ‘Dos family’ website, (Dos Family is Jenny, Staffan & Isabelle, in Sweden. A sort community, collective, group or modern family), which I came across browsing the great ninainvorm blog. So much talent in these houses, what do you think of the following random selection of images?? I am already addicted to their website.

London Design Festival...so much to see...crazy!!

Sunday 20 September 2009

Next weekend is going to be quite a special one for me, my dear friends Pilar and Nadya are coming from Spain to assist to the London Design Festival. I haven't seen them for quite a while and can't wait to spend the days all together, looking for inspiration and admiring all the stuff on display at this events, busy weekend!! So much going on around the city, in fact impossible to see all the exhibitions and events.
I have booked to see Tent London  (a collection of shows, competitions and installations covering art and architecture, vintage and contemporary design by emerging and established designers, dealers, retailers, manufacturers and brands from around the world) at Truman Brewery, and 100% Design  (the UK's leading architecture and design event showcasing everything for the modern building and interior), at Earls Court, (24-27 September).
As part of the festival, Mint will be showcasing a special collection called 'Mint escapes 2009',  (The exhibition will present The Escapists of contemporary design as our modern day storytellers who use the medium of design and craft as the interpretive voice of imagination).

If you happen to be in London don't miss this opportunity to learn about the latest in design, craft, arquitecture and interiors, (below a selection of last year events, and current products).
