Hello, Nice weekend? Mine has been a good mix of friends, coffee and cake and work, it has got very cold in London, so I am pleased I have been able to stay at home, working and relaxing. I just wanted to post some images of the Home show, I will be doing a second part post, with images of my stand, some more amazing designers and the show. I have not stopped since the show finished and need some time to organise the photos and blog about the event and many other things. Did you attend Home? It was fantastic!! Just a few days left for the Home show in London to open its doors. I mentioned before that I will be exhibiting at this new trade show (part of Top Drawer), which starts on Sunday till Tuesday. If you haven't registered yet, and fancy to come along, do so at this link. I am very excited but nervous at the same time. A long time ago, when I used to visit the shows as a designer student, I used to dream of me and my products being in one of these events, many years of studies and hard work have passed by and I am finally here. I have to admit that I don't enjoy going around the shows as I used to, or in the same way, NOW, I am part of them, the pressure to make it happen, the realisation of how many amazing designers and products are out there, and the running of the business, makes me see the whole experience in a total different way. Nevertheless I love what I do, and being at these shows in just one aspect of running chocolate creative, I am sure once I am there, up and running I will be ok. Eclectic inspiration

Hello from London, I came back on Friday, and have not seen the SUN since them haha...I had a good flight, not so bad weather, house still up, Missi happy and healthy, seen a few friends, and straight into work. But man, how difficult January is in the UK, well Winter in general. I have to motivate myself with work, walks, and plenty of friends not too miss GC, weather, family, boyfriend, etc...How do you cope with grey days and cold weather? Does it affect you?

These photos from interior designer Isabel Lopez-Quesada, have certainly help me to feel inspired and motivated. I first saw her work in AD magazine, and has since them love her projects/spaces. I share with her, a passion for eclectic mixed interiors, old and new, earthy colors, natural materials, open-airy- sunny spaces and appreciation for craftsmanship and tradition. This look is not necessarily very expensive to achieve, I have been collecting pieces over the years and keep finding treasures here in London and GC. An old chester, country farm table, mid century furniture, industrial lamps, victorian chairs/cabinets, old china, french mirror, linens etc...

They say that dreaming doesn't cost anything...it certainly doesn't cost me anything to dream about owning this flat in Las Palmas. It is becoming more and more obvious to me, what my heart has been telling me for quite a while, that to come back home should happen sooner than later. It is a difficult decision to make after living in London for the past 14 years, having my house, chocolate creative, the amazing city and wonderful friends over there, makes me hesitate big time, to leave it all and come back to a small island. Owning the flat should make my decision much easier haha...I am joking, at the end of day, material possessions do not make me happy, but to be near my family, and where I belong, to a sunny climate, with a more relaxed way of life, and near the sea. After all, chocolate creative will benefit from being here as well, as for my friends, I am sure they will come to visit, SUN AND BEACH yeah...and London is only four hours away. Have you ever had to make a similar decision in your life?

Sunny and seaside architecture

When I am in Gran Canaria, I live near Maspalomas beach, which is in the South coast of the island. So today went for a walk by the beach. Right now it is a bit windy for my liking, so no chances of laying on the sand, but weather is perfect for seating on a bench, listening to the waves and contemplating life pass by, or in my case read my copies of AD magazine wearing my sunglasses and in flip flops, so not complaining here, considering tomorrow I will be wearing a thick coat, hat, scarf and globes haha...

Maspalomas was build around the 60's/70's and was one of the first spot in the island to be developed with the tourist boom of the time. Today I took some photos of the original buildings of that period. Some have been redecorated, but most of them remain looking pretty much as it must have been at the time. Love the typography/names made of iron at the front of the apartments and houses. Very Seventy's and kish, reminds me of Miami and Palm Springs.

I dream with owning one of this apartments one day, hardly any of them go on sell, and if they do, they are at prohibit prices, but I guess I can keep dreaming and maybe one day... I love the architecture, simple and square shapes, the materials: cement, stones, wood and plenty of white, surrounded by cactus, palms and by the beach.

Cactus paradise

I have always been fascinated by cactus, and I dream with a garden full of them, don't get me wrong, I love roses, lavenders, and flowers in general, but find cactus' shapes, and different species very interesting. These photos are from Cactualdea, in la Aldea de San Nicolas, (the biggest park of its kind in Europe, I have been told), with more than 1,200 of different species can be seen in the park. Together with the species that can be found in the islands there are some that have been imported from as far as Mexico, Madagascar, Bolivia, etc...I could not believe that I forgot to bring my camera with me, and could only take a few photos with a borrowed one. I am thinking of using cactus in one of my new designs, still don't know, how or when, but have started some drawings, all I need now is time to be creative...

HOLA 2012!

Hola hola, welcome to a new year, 2012! I hope you had a wonderful end of 2011, with plenty of fun and friends to welcome the new year. I feel full of energy and very positive about 2012. It is going to be an interesting period, full of new adventures and challenges, good and bad, and I am sure it will be good to all of us in many different ways, so lets embrace it from day 1.
I am still in Gran Canaria, Spain, back to work, but taking it easy, organising and preparing for flying back to London on Wed. I hope to go to the beach tomorrow, to get a bit of sun before leaving. It is been very sunny and lovely, but quite chilly in the evenings. Houses are not prepare for Winters and humidity so I have been sleeping with more layers than back in London and shivering in bed haha...quite a contradiction as my house in London is very warm and cosy. I will post some photos of the beach and surrounding tomorrow, so you can have a better idea of how beautiful these islands are.

Wishing you Merry Christmas

Almost there...flying home tomorrow, I can't believe that after 14 years in London, I still consider and refer to Gran Canaria as HOME. It is where my heart is, mother lives there, and now my boyfriend, how can I not have my heart over there? So here I am, getting ready to fly tomorrow, (nervous), Missi senses it and it is quite unsettled, needless to say that it breaks my heart to leave him behind.

Piero and I never got around to take good photos of the house being decorated, so I just took some quick shoots. This year I have gone for a Winterland theme, gathered all my figurines of animals around the house, together with some gorgeous paper decorations and my most expensive ones, the crystal big bubbles, no tree as I will have one when I get to Spain.

Wishing you a lovely Christmas, eat, drink, kiss, make love, rest, watch TV, play, dance and above all be happy and grateful for another year.

I will post from sunny Gran canaria, my body is going to be in shock, a 20C temperature is awaiting for me, I better don't forget the sun glasses, if I remember where I left them a few months ago...

I have been following Deborah's blog for ages. I enjoy discovering all her vintage finds and talented people, so I was very pleased to see that she has opened and online shop focusing on children, vintage and quirky things. Below are my picks, (the miniature kitchen is sold already), which does not surprise me, as it is truly unique. I have been collecting myself vintage paper goods, textiles and other items for a while, and will add a new section to my shop in the New Year, all I have to do now is keep finding the interesting pieces from all my trips and put them together in the new chocolate creative site, it will take me a while, as I am designing myself the front end, and need to get a good programer/wed designer to help me with the coding, and of course and most important get the budget for it, easy, isn't?

Crafting away at Etsy event in London

Last week, Kate and I went along to an Etsy event in London, (my 3rd one) and hope many more to come. We were invited to a craft party involving some good fun. I was so unprepared, I forgot to bring any crockery with me, and left with a bag full of goodies. The UK Etsy team did a great job, they put together a fun evening, it was cold and dark outside, but I was instantly transported into this cosy and friendly space, full of creative people. I like their idea of bringing together the community and just do something different. We ate, drunk, painted some nice vintage pieces and above all met interesting people and got to spend a special evening together. From here I thanks Etsy for having us around and making me feel very good in a freezing evening in London.

Above, me, Kate and Gillian showing our expensive pieces of art, funny how different we are, Gillian and I chose vintage plates, where Kate went for a cleaner and more modern look, she painted lot of lines on plain white porcelain. Love the end result, below one of the most elaborate designs.

Last minute shooping

I am off to send a parcel to my family in Germany (already late) and do a last shopping round for mum, boyfriend and friends back in Spain. You would think I would have done it yet, specially since I have been in so many fairs and markets lately. But when you are exhibiting on your own, there is little chance of wondering around.

It is getting very cold in London, last night on my way back from the Etsy's craft party, I could feel the cold in my bones, got home and the boiler wasn't working. They are trying to fix it as I write, (I hope they manage to get it working otherwise I will have a heart attack).

Last weekend, we created a pop-up shop at my house/studio. Six of us gathered at home and transformed it into a xmas shop. We had plenty of yummy cakes, warm mulled wine, teas etc...and most important friends and people who came to buy our products. Of course, Missi was the center of the attention not that you can tell by this photo, I think, this was one was taken on Sunday late afternoon, he must had enough of people stroking him and trying to take him home with them...

This is my studio, a bit of a mess, but that is how I like it. With my products on displayed.

Kate's work on the white sofa, Marian's scarfs and tea towels, Tina's soft toys, Sian's new wallpaper soon available for sell, plus her popular bears and Eleanor's homewares, she uses recycled local wood to make this beautiful items.

Thanks to all for join us, to Hillary for making a delicious gluten free cake that I could eat, to the general public who bought our products and friends who shared with us this weekend. Next event would be in Spring, I will keep you post it!

Back from a hectic week, and glad to be at my home/studio. It is freezing out there, and I have been very busy with fairs, and at the office where I freelance as a graphic designer. Sometimes things get a bit too much, as I can never predict how much work is coming my way, plus November/December are the busiest months for chocolate creative. I am not complaining about being busy, I love what I do, just wish I had more time to focus on Xmas decorating, to enjoy the city and see my friends...I am lucky I got to make this Christmas decorations with my mother, while she was visiting. I have said before, that she is the perfect working partner. She is getting old, but still love working with me on new products, she has asked me already if I am taken home some work withe me, so she can help me with it, is it not sweet? We made only a few of each design, so stock is limited. So if you fancy some handmade Xmas decorations head over to the shop. Thinking of new ways to take this year's Xmas photos, (I know I am extremely late) came across the first photos Piero and I took together. I cat not believe that this was 2 years ago, I was very nervous because I did not know what to do or how to style the products, plus have never worked with Piero before. I have to say that this was one of the most successful photoshoot we have ever done up to date. I since them learned a lot about styling, and Piero and I make a good team, he takes the photos, so all the credits goes to him, but I do my little job as a stylish and art director. I adore working on photoshoot, and seeing the products in the final photos, and I wish I had more time to dedicate to this area of my work.

I hope we manage to wrap some spare last minute time and take some photos before Xmas, I have 3 more events to attend and plenty to do, but I am sure we will...

Hola Hola, I am back from the madness, I have been out and about in different shows, and have to admit I am glad to be back at my home/studio. 3 different shows in 1 week, it is a bit too much, my body does not cope well with dragging the products across London, day after day...Thanks Carmen for looking after my stand at Craft central, and Tina for bringing me warm soup etc...I will post soon some photos of the shows.

I am very excited that Christmas is round the corner, I hope to start decorating the house this weekend, and planning for the open house at my home/studio, and most important only 3 weeks left before I fly home to mum, boyfriend, and sunny weather. I have made some Christmas products and will be posting about them as I go.

Gift tags

I love working with japanese tape, and glassine paper, my colors are very neutral black, red and white, and the designs are simple illustrations in black, based on some of my previous designs such as the deer cameo. Each pack has 8 tags in 4 different designs.

Deer print in the pages of ELLE decoration

Last Saturday I was having my morning coffee and browsing the latest issue of ELLE Decoration, when I almost had a heart attack, haha...passing the pages and there it was, my deer print among other gorgeous products. I did not know about it at all, so it was a very pleasant surprise to see it in the magazine.

I have this obsession with rearranging things around the house. The print has been in different corners of it, and currently is in my bedroom. I like the contrast of the black graphic image against the light wall blue. Who knows where it will go next...

NEW hooks and knobs now available from the shop

I am pleased to say that the NEW hooks and knows have been finally added to the shop. Since we launched them in 100% Design last September, we have been concentrated in wholesale orders, and Gassy has just finished the ones for the shop. The hooks and knobs are handmade in plywood, painted with water based paints and finish with eco water based varnish.

There are 5 different designs and 3 colors to choose from. Makes me happy to see them going to different countries, shops and homes, soon in Japan, already in the UK, (still top secret, they have gone already to dress some of the furniture for the new shops of a very well known UK based Designer's shop).

Who was going to tell me about a year ago, when I first started to think of how to make the hooks/knobs, that my now partner was going to make them and deliver such a good job, Well done Gassy!! I am good at textiles and paper, but not way I could have made them from scratch on my own.

NEW online publication - 91 magazine

Last week I went to the launch of the new online magazine 91, published by the author of the Patchwork Harmony blog and vintage shop. It is a cute publication dedicated to vintage, craft projects and has a very personal approach to interiors. I have enjoyed the first issue very much, as I have a similar taste to Caroline and her team, when it comes to decorating and vintage finds. It was so nice to be at the party and chat to Lynne form Tea for Joy blog and Veronika from a few things from my life blog.

Merry Magpie Christmas BoutiqueI will be engaged in quite a few Xmas fairs, markets and pop-up shops in the next few months. This charity event, will be the first of many more, I will be selling my work alongside other designers, on Saturday the 26th, at the Book Club in London, from 12pm-4pm, so come by for some xmas shopping and drinks. 10% of the total sells will be donated to the Dress for Success charity. The gorgeous English countryside and a fairy tale wedding...

I am back, after some problems with my Internet connection, a nasty cold that put in bed for a week, and a great weekend away. I did not realised how tired and clutter my mind was, until I got away from London, and work last Friday, to attend my dear friends Caelia and Ben's wedding. Sometimes I keep going, and do not really listen to my body, I keep pushing because I love what I do, and feels like I am not really working, but the reality is very different, I bet a lot of you feel the same way. So I need to learn how to say NO to work and take a break not feeling guilty, difficult task when work is at home...I took a mini break, and spent the weekend in Belper, a small town in Derbyshire, with a amazing industrial heritage and plenty of history, cute old worker houses, cotton, mills, antiques shops, narrow streets, the best fish and chip shop in the whole England, and of course a fairy tale wedding. I was welcome with this B&B, and a big warm room, in a sunny and gorgeous day, took the day to explore the town, visited some antiques shops, the river gardens, the Mill, made friends with some old ladies and the fish and chips place, and most important relaxed and had a nice time with my friends.

The wedding took place on Saturday, in a small and gorgeous church next to this amazing manor, in Nottingham. The house was stunning, decorated in a very simple way, the dinning room was painted in pink, I know, but it was gorgeous, filled with old painting, It was sunny day, but needles to say that it got very cold in the evening so I found a spot next to the fire place to cuddle up in the sofa.

Below are my favorites shoots of this first issue, eclectic mix of vintage furniture, hints of colors, pieces from independent designers, playful and quirkiness interiors, relaxed, personal, and easy going decorating approach to living. Thanks for visiting me at my stand at 100% Design

Did you visited 100% Design or any other events during the London Design Week? It has been amazing. I never knew that the fair was so international, there were stands from different countries as far as Chile and Argentine, or as near as my dear Spain. I got to meet people from all over the world, Europe, Middle East, Japan, China, Canada, the States etc...as I was exhibiting I did not have the chance to do my usual round to the other shows and pop up events, only took a brief look at Tent when designers were still setting up stands. So will pop around blogs to get a better inside of what was going on. As for me, I am glad show is over, 100% Design ended on Sunday and I have not stopped since them. It has been a very good show, more than I could have ever expected or predicted, but tiring, 4 days is enough!! I want to thank everybody who came to say hello, from my lovely friends, to people I knew, and general public and trade visitors that took interest in the brand and its products. You all have made me feel very welcome and happy to be at the fair. Here are some photos of the stand, Vini and I set it up last week, I could have not done it without him, for ever grateful my dear friend.

See you at 100% Design

Stand is up and finished, looking gorgeous, and ready to welcome people tomorrow at the opening day of 100% Design Fair in London. It took us all day yesterday, but I am glad we managed to finish it on time, as I wanted to have today to rest a bit and focus on other things. If you are visiting the fair, I am at stand G29, near the entrance on the right hand side, come and say hello. I leave you with some photos that Vini and I took last week, my poor living room, suffers continuos changes, furniture, cushions and objects normally move around, depending on my mood, or if there is something new I just made or purchase.

New design studio in Madrid

A while ago some of my prints and mugs went to Spain, to Mireia's new design studio, called aquamarina, in Madrid. She recently sent me some nice photos of the space, where they offer advice on decorating, styling, and undertake residential as well as commercial projects. The studio is ready to welcome their first clients and I am glad to see that all the hard work they have put into it has finally resulted in such a pretty and relax space. I like her choice of grey for the wall (my favorite color at the moment), combine with white furniture, (old and contemporary) and blue touches, the typography on the walls and the nice selection of ceramics. Well done Mireia, and good luck with your new project, looking very nice.

It is being over a year that I started to think of how I could make knobs, what material, shape, design, etc...I love painting and restoring old pieces of furniture, and I guess the knobs were an obvious choice when thinking of what new products I could add the the collections of textiles and ceramics. I have spent the past few months together with Gassy, developing these new hooks and knobs (they will be soon available from my shop) to launch in time for 100% Design. They are made of plywood, we tried different kind of wood and colors, but I found plywood to be the most contemporary. I like the contracts of it with the flat colors and vintage images. I will talk about the process more in detail in another post, but for the time being I leave you with some photos, that Vini took today. I just wish I had more time to think more about how to style the photos, as sometimes I act on impulse and rush things, oh well, maybe next time I will be more organised and prepared!

I have been saving for one of this string pocket shelving for a while, just need another £100 to go haha...I might have to wait another year...umm, I better hurry up as I would love to use it to decorate my next stand. Don't know if to get a vintage one in 3 colors, red, yellow and blue, (which I recently saw in a big Victorian warehouse full of amazing furniture and all sort of objects, in Crystal palace), or a new one, the yellow is my favorite so far.

Preparing for 100% Design fair in London

As many of you know, in a couple of weeks, I will be launching chocolate creative at 100% Design fair. What I mean by launching, I mean having a presence in a major show for the first time since I started the company back in 2008. Up to now, chocolate creative have been selling, mainly online, in small independent shops in the UK and Europe and at some craft fairs/markets and small design shows. So being at one of the most important and relevant design fairs in the country as part of the London Design Festival, makes me very happy but, I would lie if I say that I am not terrified at the same time. I admire British people in a way for always being so correct/diplomatic and keeping their fears, self doubts and negative comments for themselves. I try very hard to copy some of that, but me being Spanish from head to toe can not help but express what is really happening in my heart and mind right now. I sometimes being advised of not saying the true/complain when it comes to having bad experiences at certain shows, where I have spent 4 days of my life to make £50, or freeze to death in a Xmas market where people won't even look at the products. But hey I am way to honest not to mention it in here, we all have up and downs, good and bad experiences, and that is what makes this life worth living and fight for our dreams and goals.

So with a few weeks to go before the show start, with my house/studio being a total mess, and my work in process, can not help but feel overwhelmed with doubts and fear, but lucky and appreciative of the opportunity I have created for myself to work on something I am totally passionate about and have the supportive network of amazing friends who are going through similar experiences and family who is always there for me, and now boyfriend who not only makes me very happy but has helped to develop the new product, the wooden hooks/knobs. So I leave you with some photos of my messy desk and house, it makes laugh to show these photos, (clean laundry on top of the recent painted piece, tools spread all over, paper work to deal with, etc...) as I always make sure that my house appears clean, tidy and very styled haha...here you have the true and honest picture of chocolate creative headquarter!!

By the way if you are in London this weekend do not miss the craft tail as part of the Thames festival, along Southbank, my friends from the crafty pint would be there among other amazing designers/makers.

Wedding favors from chocolate creative

Wedding season is still on, or at least it seems in the UK, some of my friends are getting married very soon, and I need to start thinking of what to wear, dress, shoes, etc...loose some kilos to fit in the dress haha...I cried in the last wedding I attended, my friends' Emily and Tom got married a few months ago, in a beautiful and cheerful event, my first Jewish wedding and I hope not the last. The rabbi was very friendly and kept making jokes all the way through the ceremony, and we danced to past midnight. Events to remember and photos to share, makes me very happy to see my friends getting hitched and be able to be there to share that moment with them, Claire if you are reading this, I hope to make it to your wedding in Thailand too!! So seeing my deer lavender sachet in the pages on Cosmopolitan bridal latest issue, has put a smile on my face. The sachet is already on its way to a wedding in Scotland, I hope they send me photos so I can see how it looked in the event. When time allow, I will develop the wedding favors, decor range and bespoke service, thanks cosmo bride for having us in your last issue!

London never stops surprising me, it is an incredible city, full of life and beautiful corners such as Richmond park. Last weekend we walked along the park and canal for hours making the most of the last Summer days. I refuse to think that the season is almost over and that the Sun is going to hide till next year...I do not cope with grey cold days very well, and the thought of Autumn and Winter being round the corner do not make me very happy, so I am going to keep this photos in my diary to remind me of the sunny days that I have enjoyed and book my flight to Gran Canaria as soon as possible...

Old Spitalfields Antique Market

Well, back to reality, Gassy is gone back home, Summer is almost ending, and I have to focus on work, because I want to and as a way to avoid thinking too much how hard is to have a boyfriend who lives in another country, (4 hours flight from London), not so bad, as he is from my home town, Gran Canaria, but still so far away....We visited Spitalfields antique's market last Thursday, and he totally loved it. We are even thinking of having a stall ourselves to sell all the stuff we like and keep collecting, well that is if he chooses to come and live in London with me haha...My favorite stall was run by two girls who had the most curious stuff, loved the wood games, cards, stamps, etc...they displayed the items so well and make you want to buy them all, if I only have a bigger house. The market is stuffed with all sort of things, from old frames, taxidermy, pottery, paper goods, I trully recommend a visit, although prices are much higher than in other markets, well you are in the city after all.

Hi, how is Summer going? Hope well, apart of the riots that took place all over the city, things are good, I have not being around much...Summer, boyfriend staying, show to prepare for, trying to relax etc...So I am just popping in to let you know about Gorgeous Juno, (She is just over two year's old, had all her jabs, spayed and microchipped). She needs a new home, she is a lovely cat that needs to be rehome. She would love to be in a cosy house with some nice people who really love cats and have time to look after her and give the love she needs. Please let me know if any of you would love to have her or pass the word to your friends and relatives. She lives with my dear friend in East Dulwich, South London, so London would be ideal. casa decor, the best interior event in Spain

Have you heard of casa decor? it is an interiors show that currently happens in Spain, (Barcelona and Madrid), other locations in Europe and and South America. What makes this event different to the rest of interiors shows is the fact that they take a derelic building/space and decorate it to the last detail. Each interior firm taken part in the show will decorate a room in the building. I have visited the show in Barcelona in the past, and are very excited about going this year, not only to see this year's building (casa Antoni Bonay, a 2000m2 dated back to 1869) being transformed from this empty shell into an amazing and interesting space, but to spend some time with my friends and this amazing city!.

Exhibiting at 100% Design show

I am very happy and at the same time a bit overwhelmed about exhibiting at this year's 100% Design show in London. I have been attending this event together with Tent, Origin, and rest of trade and retail shows since I came to the city, with the hope that one day I will be showing my work at one of them. It gives me a high just to see my company's profile being listed in the exhibitors zone, but this, not only implied the fact that I am taken part, but the realisation of the huge responsibility, both financially and work-wise that, taken part in one of the most relevant events in London during the London Design festival involves. So that is why I have not being posting much lately, as I am working on a new product and a few new designs to launch at the this year's show. I have designed the stand, but keep changing my mind about colors and displays constantly, the success of my participation in the show lies on how well I display my work, and of course, whether or not people will appreciate and like the products. There are so many amazing designers taken part, not only at 100% Design but at the other shows as well, sometimes I think, does this world need another cushion or mug?? but I keep saying to myself, that YES it does need it! So if you are in London around the 22-25 of September and are thinking of visiting the show, come and say hello, I will be at Stand F28. I will be giving away some free tickets near the time, so keep in tune for later on in September, and wish me luck, I am going to need plenty of it haha...

I find very interesting what people choose to surround their self with, their different styles and collection of furniture, loved objects etc...and how they set up their working spaces. I could easily spend big part of my time visiting design, antique, lifestyle, second hand, you name it, shops. In the past I have looked for premises around where I live to open my own shop, where to sell my handmade products alongside other gorgeous treats, together with restored furniture mixed with new pieces by independent designers, next to a organic cafe, with homemade cakes and a studio where to work. Maybe one day I will come across the perfect space whether, it is back in Gran Canaria or here in London, I will see... Gosto is a perfect example of a well designed shop that stock a balance selection of established brands and beautiful products from new designers. The shop is run by Sonia and is located in a town called Blaricum just outside Amsterdam, I think I will be a regular if I was near by, the shop blog is a treat for decor and products ideas, one of my favorites is the red version of the E25-socket lamp rood by Muuto. Do you have a favorite shop/shops where you live?

Have I ever said in this blog that I am obsess with deer/stags/ciervos images? I think I am –looking for some images for inspiration I came across the fantastic work of photographer Debbie Carlos, I am most taken by these images of her project called 'Human nature', that she took of animals being displayed at Museums. Come on, we all do take photos of this creatures when going to Museums, (I certainly do), but clearly mine has never looked this good. Somehow she has made them look as if they were still alive and she was witnessing them in their real natural environment, totally love her big format posters available at her etsy shop.

There is something about people's work spaces that really intrigue me, normally full of personal and inspiring things, messy and simple at the same time. My studio, is in my house, it is where I tend to spend 80% of my time, sometimes it feels suffocating due to the amount of work or time spent in the same room, but equally satisfying and inspiring. I really like these photos by photographer Nicole Bachmann, she has managed to capture the daily routine of work, rooms that has not being stylish or made up to look certain way, just empty spaces waiting to be used by their creative owners. Favorite cafe and shops in Old Spitalfields market

Spitalfields market in London, has changed considerably over the years, not in a good way if you ask me. It used to be more authentic, and unique, but since they revamped the market it has lost quite a lot of the old feel to it, and many gorgeous independent shops have moved away to cheaper areas. Nevertheless some shops still remind the same and are the real treat of the area, together with the many stalls selling handmade, vintage, yummy food, etc...when visiting the area, I really recommend getting lost in the narrow streets surrounding the main market and Brick Lane, to really see and feel some of the real old market and houses. Did I say I love old England?

My favorite cafe opposite the market, always very busy on a Sunday, they do a yummy tea time selection and great coffee. I love resting there when visiting the market, it feels like being in old England.

A nice and peaceful Saturday evening in South London, mum (who is visiting for a few weeks), is helping with the sewing and I am here working in my shop. It has been a funny rainy/sunny kind of a day. We ate a nice risotto in the garden and had a lovely coffee and cake indoors... glad my mother is around helping with my work, she is amazing and a great member of the team when it comes to developing new products, I wish we lived closer so I could enjoy her company more often...

Piero took these photos of the NEW lavender sachets and organic cotton bags yesterday, so I am glad I can finally upload them in the shop. They are made of natural linens and filled with fresh lavender. They come in a reusable organic cotton bag and make perfect gifts.

The deer cameo cushions have been out of stock for quite sometimes, I know that some of you have been waiting ages for them, so apologises for the delay, I was waiting for the fabric to arrive, and it is finally here!! It is a mix of hemp and organic cotton in a creamy color, soft and nice to work with. I have been trying different colors and fabric combination, and have made these 3 cushions to test colors and fabrics. They are 37cm each and have the back in cream plain color, since they are unique and only have 1 unit of each, I will be selling them for £40 each.

I hope to get on with the new sizes and color soon, specially since I have heard that habitat is going big on the Victorian cameos look, I better hurry up before they launch their own collection!!! Will keep you posted on the new cushions!!

Fantastic locations in the X-men: First Class the movie

OMG I so much enjoyed watching the new movie X-men: First Class last night. I am a fan of well done action movies, the ones that leaves you stick to your seat for the whole duration of the film, and this one is one of them. They have, as well, done a really good job on the locations, interiors, styling etc...I could even spot the Tom Dixon lamps, cushions from Sanderson and one of my favorites desk lamps that they have used in their styling. Most of the locations were filmed in England and the action takes place on 1960s-style sets, conceived by production designer Chris Seagers. Below are some snaps of the constructed interiors, one of my favorites has to be the transformation of the Australia House, a 1918 London landmark, into the Kremlin's war room. I really recommend the movie if you enjoy action, done on James Bond style with amazing interiors and styling. The movie is a visual master piece!

Perfect space and sense of style

Sometimes when I see places such as this, I start dreaming about my perfect house back in Gran Canaria, being able to buy an old flat or house in the old part of the city, with plenty of light and space, and decorate it with furniture and objects from all over the world, specially, from my dear England, trips to France. Germany, the Netherlands, the States, far Asia and South America, you see this is all in my dreams...but somehow this day dreaming make me keep going and work even harder in this very tough times to achieve my goals and never never give up, unless of course I stop feeling this passion and love for what I do.

These images are from the owner's house of the Dimorestudio, who opened its doors for Yatzer magazine. I really admire their style, almost not following any rules, I guess just based on their love for certain objets, furniture, respect for the space and and their immense sense of style, PERFECT!

Nice weekend?? It is being lovely in london. I am still recovering from my friend's wedding yesterday, they looked so happy and gorgeous, we all danced, ate and drunk in different quantities, love makes us all happy people!!

I have been meaning to make tea light holders for a quite a while. But was not sure about the designs, I tried different versions and came with this one, a collection of different cameos, deer, rabbit, flamingo, etc...they are made of printed paper around a glass holder. They are for sell at my shop, not many left as they proved very popular at the last show, I need to get making more...

I don't know about you, but I like way too many styles to stick to just one. I love the vintage look that old furniture, (my dear chester) and a few junk finds give to a room, combined with a dark wall and a few more modern pieces together with ethnic treasures. Since I started my cameos collection I have been more drawn into dark victorian images and spaces, It makes the house feels cosy and very English; but at the same time love the tranquility and clean lines of a white wall, and furniture, with roses and a more feminine touch, not too girly just the right balance. So since I can not make my mind up I keep changing and rearranging things around the house...what look do you prefer? What is your choice of style when it comes to decorating your home?

Open House review and discount at chocolate creative

Open House weekend is over, so back to normality...the house feels very quiet after having a lot of people around. This was the first year I took part in the Dulwich Festival, and I am glad I did. Over all, it has been a very nice event, where Kate, Louise and myself, got to meet very nice people, who were interested in out products. These events are very good for getting direct feedback from customers and raise the profile of our brands, thanks to friends and all the people who joined us over the 2 days.

We are working on the next event, which would be a Xmas pop up shop, where we expect to have a gorgeous selection of gifts, craft workshops, tasty treats, and much more.

Back from the Royal Wedding and bank holidays weekend. After I came back from Spain a few weeks back, weather in London have been amazing and a days off have been happening one after another, visit from my friends from Barcelona, presents from Kate to celebrate my 40's!, etc...Of course I have been working in between, preparing the house and stock for the Open House weekend, and making tea candles...

Kate and me had a mix and match tea party on Friday, she gave me lovely presents, (prints and a nice ceramic pot), and we had tasty cakes and tea while chatting away for ours...(Thanks Kate for my presents, totally love them!).

My lovely new print and candle tea lights I am working on, I have printed new designs and I hoping to have them ready to sell over the weekend...

I am getting very excited about the Artist's open house event next week. As part of the Dulwich festival, myself, Kate, and Louise will be selling our work from my home/studio in South London. The sign is already outside my house, and I will start doing the garden tomorrow, prepare the house and stock for the event, so if you live in London, this Festival is a great opportunity to buy directly from the many artists/designers that will take part, as many of us offer very good discounts and only sell our work personally at this events. It makes me very happy to see NEW venues for designers/makers popping up, specially if they are as well thought, marketed and curated as this one is. This new market is called designermakers, and it is not just a market, it is a venue for networking, and spreading the word about the good design practice. It has always been a dream of mine to create something similar back home in Gran Canaria, as there is a luck of projects such as this to support the current designers/makers in the island. I know this will be one of my jobs when I go back, whenever that may be...I encourage to visit their site and market, interesting workshops coming up and plenty of beautiful things, mine favorites are as follow...

Sun is out and we are heading into a busy May, full of events all over the city. I wish I could attend most of them, but being realistic I know that time will only allow for a few, so I will make my priorities and make my way to my 'must' go list!!

7-8 May I have got my invite for the Cavaliero Finn Spring Show, held in a beautiful elegant house in Herne Hill. The show is part of the Dulwich Festival, and will have on displayed work from different artists and designers, so I will join Debra and Julianna in their opening night to enjoy this year's well curated selection of work!!

7-8 May Same time happening the Dulwich festival, (more information in a separate post).

11 -14 may Spirit of Summer fair, organised by House & Garden.

19-22 May Made in Clerkenwell at Craft central, not to be missed if you are looking for unique well designed and crafted products, chocolate creative will be there.

26 May ‘Swish for Victory’, a clothes swap event in support of Women’s Aid. Tickets are being sold to raise funds and there will also be a raffle, (I will be donating a product for the occasion) on the night to raise further money for the charity. Swish for Victory is being held at The ACE Centre, Nelson, Lancashire.

Great Britain Railway Travel Posters

I have been in love for quite sometimes with these vintage posters that the British railway company used to promote the traveling by train in the country. Needless to say that my favorite is the deer in the Scottish highlands. I spent a week traveling around this landmarks and find them one of the most amazing places I have been so far, plus I have a fascination with deers that is often present in my designs, so I will get this one for my living room, ideally I would like to get an original, but I guess they are very rare and expensive, so here is the link to an online shop that sells reproductions.

I love this last ones, they look like they belong to a sunny mediterranean or caribbean destination, and the slogans on the posters. I would like to travel back in time and see these places as they were...

A relaxed and gorgeous weekend...

Back from a peaceful, relaxed and gorgeous weekend, I have spent the last two days in the remote and quiet town of La Aldea de San Nicolas, a small town far far from the rest of the world. Ate fresh fruit collected straight from the land, fresh fish by the beach, did a lot of walking, went to a hidden beach, etc...I wish I could bring some of this with me back to London, the feeling of total calm, and peace that I feel when I am here, the tranquility and simplicity of its people and landscape, which is every dry and moon like, with its endemic plants, birds, lizards, etc...I totally love London, but I appreciate this so different part of my life/culture that I get to live when back home in Gran Canaria.

Do you have a favorite place where to scape and recharge batteries??

The perfect balance – Montes+Mujica shop

These photos from interiors shop Montes+Mujica in el Pais Vasco, represent the perfect balance I like to achieve when it comes to decorating. I was browsing an old copy of Nuevo Estilo magazine and found myself again and again hooked on this images, more in the online version of the magazine. The right mix of industrial lighting, old pieces, art, white big sofas, more contemporary pieces and plenty of light. Perfect!!

Amazing sunny renovation!

I am in Gran Canaria, got here yesterday after having missed my flight from London on Monday, due to a huge accident on the motor-way that leads to the airport. Had to buy a new ticket and wait till yesterday to hug my mum and kiss my boyfriend...but learned an important lesson, that sometimes things happen, that are out of your control, and you better relax, find a solution and hope for the best, they say money does not provide you with happiness, but I tell you, it does helps and makes your life easier and more comfortable...

...I dream with one day, buying an old property in the island and renovate it to my taste, that is what my friend Jorge has done with this tiny apartment by the beach. He took a huge risk in taken down the whole old internal structure and almost starting from zero, but his brave decision has paid off, as he now has created and amazing space, full of luxuries and clever solutions, such as the corridor kitchen to save space, and open up the living space to the exterior, by placing huge front and back windows . Here are some before and after pictures, and if you are planning a visit to my sunny Gran Canaria, the apartment is for rent here.

Kate and me, spent a Saturday afternoon, admiring the different products for sell, and discovering new shops around the area, including the of cabbages & kings shop itself. She will be selling her gorgeous products at this weekend's market, together with many more talented designers/crafters, shame I could not make it, as I am flying to Spain on Monday, and need to leave a lot of stock ready before flying home.

NEW Decayed Glamour prints

The Cameos and Love message prints have been selling very well, specially the Deer Cameos. What is it about the deer image that is so attractive?? It is my favorite so far, soon to come in a mug and new cushions!! I have expanded the prints selection to include the Decayed Glamour collection, there are 5 different designs to choose from, all hand silk screen printed by me at my home/studio in London.

13 years I have been in London, and never have visited the Geffrye Museum before, that is bad!! considering it is a bus ride away from home, free to visit and about a subject I adore, interiors. Saturday, was a sunny glorious day in London, so decided to venture to East London to discover a bit more about this area and the Museum. The venue is the right size, have gorgeous gardens, entrance, and rooms exploring each period of the English Middle Class houses and their decorations, different styles, ways of living etc...

The beginning of the Interiors books and magazines, so funny to discover this little book and how everything started...

I have actually seems cameos such as these, in an antique fair outside London, did not have enough money to get them at the time...

Great examples of William Morris patterns and fabrics...Love this pink lamp and sofa!

Coffee tables form different periods, Art Deco and Mid Century...I totally recommend a visit to the Museum, and near by areas of Columbia Road, Brick Lane, etc...better avoid Sundays, it is mad around there!

Decorate Book Launch party in London

Back in February I blogged about the Decorate Book press breakfast I had the opportunity to attend. Not only I met the authors in person and other very nice bloggers but got a signed copy by Holly Becker from Decor 8, in my hands to take home. I can not tell you enough, how much I like this book, every time I open it, I find new ideas and gorgeous photos, the quotes are very good too!! So imaging how disappointed I am, as I won't be in London for the Launch Party at Liberty on April 13th, as I am going to be back in Gran Canaria till end of April, so will miss the party, and the chance to chat to Holly, and many other great people who would be at the party.

Nice weekend? I hope so, weather is improving, flowers, trees changing...I feel so much more energetic...Winter has been hard, I know it is a beautiful season, but I don't cope well with cold weather and short grey days...after all I was born in a sunny island.

I Love vintage toys and furniture, and for a while have been meaning to ask Kate to bring these gorgeous toys and chairs, all the way from Norwich to London so I could use them in the photo shoot of the children's cushion collection. And here there are!!! Thanks Kate for lending them for the photos, I am very happy with the result, they complement the cushions designs very well and make great photos. Kate and me love going to second hand and antiques shops to look for bargains and gems to bring home, Norwich wait for me I am coming soon...

Why I BLOG...

Sometimes I think what is the point of blogging when there are 1000s of amazing blogs dedicated to the same subject as mine out there?? Specially when I have been very busy, and the pressure of keeping up with the posts increase by the day...All started back in Nov 2008 when Kate (since them, Kate has became a wonderful mum to Ella and Alice and have moved to Norwich, so she is not with chocolate creative blog anymore), decided to open an account with blogger and convinced me that it was a good idea to create our own diary of things we like, and are interested in. Well after a little while I got hooked and here I am, still blogging!!

I do it out of curiosity and passion for design, craft, interiors, etc... I used to talk more about other people's work than my own, never really felt like showing what I do, or bits of my personal life, but as things have evolved, and the blog is somehow connected to my business and myself, I decided that I would start mentioning and showing more and more the creative process behind my work, and a bit about my personal life, as Margarita is chocolate creative and vice-versa.

Blogging, has given me the opportunity of meeting very nice people, some of who I have met personally, and other who I have an online friendship and connection, people who live far from me, and have similar views and interests.

A while ago I read this post by Holly from Decor 8, and this morning came across this post by Jen from Made by the Girl, and this one by Get it Girl Style, and wanted to express my views on the subject. I am not a competitive person at all, when studying Fine Art (design), I disliked the competition around so much, that I would go as far as I could from arrogant and mean people. I am not going to lie if I say that I don't expect comments in my posts, as that is how I connect with people out there, I love reading them, and following back to their blogs, making comments etc...So many times I keep leaving comments in some of my favorites blogs, and never never get their comments in return, never mind, I won't stop following them for that reason, as long as they keep posting about things that I like I would keep going back to their blogs, regardless if they think that my blog is not worth a comment!!

I would only blog if I have something to say or show, I don't do it daily as I run a business, that takes almost all my time, plus sometimes I don't have anything interesting to say or show, so if you don't see me around that much, is for these reasons, as said I LOVE blogging and would continue doing as long as I keep enjoying it, I won't put any more pressure on it, (and please excuse my spelling and grammar, I am Spanish, and English is only my second language!

By the way, I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter, why do you blog?

It has been unusually sunny in London, still very cold for my standards, but Spring is somehow coming our way...These paintings by artist Luis Kerch have really put a smile on my face. Totally love the way he mixs colors and textures to create this beautiful and magical landscapes. He lives with his wife, Victoria, and kids in Kent, so I hope to see his art in person one day soon, maybe in London?? I hope so, he is very talented! All I need, is to sell a lot of cushions to get one of his paintings!

I dream with a new kitchen...

I dream with a new kitchen almost every day, people say that material things and fancy houses don't give you happiness, but I am pretty sure that a new kitchen would make me very happy!! My boyfriend was saying to me last night that the happiest man on earth live in a 2 by 2 meters space, don't practice sex, have money or fancy things, ok, that may be true and I can see his point, but I still think that a new kitchen would make me a very happy woman!! Jokes apart, it is nothing wrong with my current kitchen I just hate it, full stop, and after seeing these photos from the Ikea inspiration site, I am even more determined to get one soon. These photos come to show that you don't need to splash thousands to get a great space, simple units, mixed and match with old/vintage furniture and objects, creates a very cosy and personal living space, just how I like it, so Ikea (let me clarify this, I don't like Ikea, and would never decorate a house based entirely on their products, but a few things here and there, makes my life a bit easier), wait for me, I am coming as soon as I get the money for a new kitchen!!

Mixing styles and objects

I don't follow trends when it comes to decorating my house, I guess blogs, magazines and books have a great influence on me as well as my traveling, and taste for rescuing old things. But really I don't plan in advance how I want things to look, or what style my bedroom would be, I just follow my feelings. I buy things because I love them not because I think they are going to match my sofa, or the overall aesthetic of the house, somehow all these things come together without me even thinking about it. These photos are a clear example, my ceramics from Brazil, vintage box and book shelve, a limited edition of a Wallpaper poster and the gorgeous ribbon lamp from habitat.

...London is still grey and wet, still a few more months of rain, no SUN, and not venturing into my garden...so I can only dream of being back home, in a sunny terrace by the back of the house, surrounding by my cats, maybe 1 dog, my vegetables and flowers, a big studio and most important, all share with my gorgeous man. This picture says it all for me, simple, conformable and down to earth, this is how I picture my live in Gran Canaria. These visions are what keep me going through English Winters...What about you? The LOVE of my life...

Do you have a pet? I found Missi, on Peckham high street about 3 years ago, he was lost, lonely, skinny and very stress. I took him home in a box and has been with me since them. At the beginning he would not allow me to touch him or feed him, but after a few month he got his confidence back and is now the king of the house and neighborhood. As cheesy as it may sounds he is the LOVE of my life!
